With a budget of around €140-€160 you can get a room at a decent hotel in Bilbao’s city centre.
In this price bracket you get a good mix of reputable chain hotels and reasonably priced four-star establishments.
Most of the hotels in this list have a central location, on-site restaurants and a few come with spectacular views of the city’s surrounding hills and mountains.

NH Bilbao Deusto
Like most NH hotels, value for money is good. Slightly out of the city centre in Deusto, but still close enough to be convenient. The Deusto metro is about 400 metres away, and you can easily walk from the hotel to Plaza Moyua in 30 minutes.

Hotel Conde Duque Bilbao
One of several hotels located on Campo Volantin, the street which runs adjacent to the river from the City Hall building up to the spectacular University of Deusto.
The Conde Duque’s biggest advantage is its location. Calatrava’s acclaimed ‘Zubizuri Bridge’ is on its doorstep and many of Bilbao’s most iconic sights are within easy walking distance, such as the Guggenheim Museum, Casco Viejo and Plaza Moyua.
Hotel Gran Bilbao
Heading south down Bilbao’s River Nervión, you will find the Hotel Gran Bilbao in the historic neighbourhood of Atxuri, originally a surburb of Casco Viejo, the city’s oldest district.
Atxuri has great connections. Apart from being a stone’s throw from the old town, Atxuri station, once of Bilbao’s main train stations, is now the final southern stop of the city’s extensive tram line.
A very modern hotel, each of the rooms features colourful, funky artistic designs.
Hotel Abando
A stalwart of Bilbao’s hospitality industry for the past 30 years, you can’t get any more in the heart of the city than this four-star hotel.
Perhaps slightly dated décor now, but the hotel still contains plenty of character.
The location is also superb for value. You have the pintxos of Calle Ledesma on your doorstep, Gran Via (Bilbao’s main road, cutting across the entire city) is just around the corner and Casco Viejo is within eyesight.
NH Collection Villa de Bilbao
Another one of NH’s Bilbao collection. As is the case with most NH hotels, the rooms are modern, clean and understated.
Villa de Bilbao can be found at the San Mames end of Gran Via, right next to the Plaza Sagrado Corazón de Jesus (the roundabout with a statue of Jesus in the middle).
The location is ideal. Palacio Euskalduna is on the other side of the roundabout, the inner-city green space Parque Doña Casilda is across the road, Athletic Club’s San Mames football stadium is a two-minute walk away and all the shops of Gran Via are easily accessible.
Barceló Bilbao Nervión
One of Bilbao’s signature hotels, its dark façade and tinted windows are slowly becoming an iconic feature of the city centre’s river front.
If you choose the right room at the right moment, Barceló Bilbao is suprisingly affordable.
This four-star hotel has a fitness centre, its own car park, 24-hour reception and an on-site restaurant. Casco Viejo is nearby, as is Gran Via and Abando Train Station.
Abba Euskalduna hotel
Located right next to San Mames Stadium, this is the perfect mid-range hotel for football tourists. Even if you’re stay doesn’t coincide with a match, the Athletic Club Museum plus the venue’s bars and restaurant are all within easy reach.
Football aside, San Mames metro station and tram stop are nearby to help you explore the city, while Palacio Euskalduna is also a short walk from the hotel.
The four-star establishment also has its own restaurant, El Mirador, which serves Basque food made with local ingredients and give clients access to incredible views of Bilbao’s river.
