Recently opened Santurtzi bar ‘Biribil’ has been judged to produce Bizkaia’s best slice of Spanish omelette in 2024.
The 2024 ‘Bizkaiko Tortilla Kopa’ (Basque for ‘Biscay Tortilla Cup’) is into its third year of existence.
Sixty-four bars and restaurants initially entered the 2024 championship, which started at the end of September, with four finalists competing for the grand title at Athletic Club’s San Mames stadium on November 26.
A jury containing michelin-star chefs, restaurateurs, journalists, food critics and influencers tried and evaluated all the tortillas, round by round, judging them based on criteria such as flavour, portion size, presentation and juiciness.
The Santurtzi (a town located within Greater Bilbao) spot had to see off stiff competition from some of the region’s most famed establishments, including Mr. Marvelous and Restaurante Markina.
