‘El Huevo Frito’, an iconic Bilbao-based bar, won Bizkaia’s 2025 tortilla of the year award, coming out on top from an initial list of 32 nominees.
This is the fourth edition of the ‘Bizkaia Tortillia Kopa’ (‘Biscay Tortilla Cup’ in English). Last year’s winner was Biribil, a bar located in the town of Santurtzi.
The 2025 final took place at Athletic Club’s San Mames in November, with the four finalists cooking their Spanish omelette on the spot for a panel of five top chefs: Egoitz Álvarez (2024 winner), Dani García (Marítimo), Mikel Población (Etxanobe y Ola), Josemi Olazabalaga (Andra Mari) and Alexia Ballesteros (Baserri Maitea).
Here are all the finalists and where to find the bars:

A well-known pintxo bar in Bilbao, El Huevo Frito first opened in the 1970s. However, its popularity grew in the 90s when they decided to focus on serving pintxos that come with a fried egg.
